SBHC Standards for Certification Review

The SBHC State Program Office (SPO) is currently undertaking a review of the SBHC Standards for Certification. The goal of this review is to reexamine the current Standards to (1) identify and address any areas in need of clarification; (2) update sections to align with current best practice: and (3) continue to adapt the Standards to support operations and advance quality healthcare in a school setting.
SPO recently convened a SBHC Certification Review workgroup comprised of representatives from the SPO, OSBHA, the Conference of Local Health Officials (CLHO) and Oregon SBHCs. The workgroup met six times from October 2015 to February 2016 to review the Standards line by line and explore potential revisions. Please see below for meeting materials and summary notes:
Meeting 1: October 29, 2015
Meeting 4: January 12, 2016
Meeting 2: November 19, 2015
??span>Meeting 5: February 2, 2016
Meeting 3: December 10, 2015
Meeting 6: February 23, 2016
The workgroup produced draft revisions to the Standards, which are available below. The first document contains the workgroup?셲 proposed edits to the current Standards, with all proposed edits indicated in RED. The second document shows what the new Standards would look like, should all the workgroup?셲 edits be incorporated into a new set of Standards.

These documents are currently being shared with the SBHC field for feedback. The SBHC Certification Review workgroup will meet again in May 2016 to make any final revisions to the Standards based upon this feedback.

The SPO held a webinar in early April 2016 to review the major changes proposed by the workgroup to the Standards.혻 For more information, please view the Certification Standards Revisions webinar혻presentation.

A final draft of the new Standards will become available in fall 2016. All Oregon State certified SBHCs will be required to meet the minimum standards outlined in the revised Standards beginning in the 2017-2018 school year.
The first SBHC Standards for Certification were developed in 2000 by the SPO, Oregon School-Based Health Alliance (OSBHA), and SBHC partners. These Standards have been updated a number of times over the past 15 years, most recently in 2012-2013.혻For more information, please view the혻current Oregon혻SBHC Standards for Certification.
